Naturally, for one of the first greyhound events of the summer, the "Dog Days of Summer," we hit the 90 degree mark for the first time last weeekend.
Initially, Dream and I were going to staff the Rescued Racers booth for a few hours mid-day and have Rog meet us for lunch. A lot of the restaurants in the old town area of St. Charles were opening their patios to the dogs that day so it was kinda cool.
Since it was soooo hot, Dream stayed home with Rog for a while and came out around 2. Our group was geting a bunch of dogs from K.C. later that afternoon, but the details were a little sketchy. Long story short, I (along with Dream) got roped into hanging out at the booth until 5. She's a wierdo sometimes and refuses to lay down or drink water in public so Rog ended up taking her home at 4 so she wouldn't get too overheated.
While I was fielding questions and raking in the cash for the hounds, I got talked in to taking one of our fosters who was staying in a house that's AC got hit by lightening the night before. Far be it from me to say no ... so we had Jake for "a day or two." Which actually ran until Thursday.
He was a wonderful guy, he's 10 and didn't do the stairs so just hung out on the lower level the whole time. Besides being old, he's MASSIVE - 92 pounds! Needless to say, Dream didn't try to bully him. The only issue we had with him was quite gross. Sparing the horrific details, we went to dinner and came home to find projectile (fill in the blank) in our foyer. From a huge dog....
Roger at that point said no more four-legged guests.
