On the Road Again...

It's Sunday night and I'm on the road again.

After a quick trip home for a haircut and Heather's shower, I actually got to spend some time with Rog by going to the Cardinals game and to one of our favorite Midwest Cajun places, Broadway Oyster Bar.

Another day, more rain - seems to be the story of my weekend. The game was delayed by rain for about an hour or so midway through so we made friend with the lady at the beer stand by our seats. Fortunately, our seats were covered by an overhang so we were dry.

Now I'm off to Cincinnati until the wee hours of Saturday morning for a conference for work. We're staying in the dorms, should be fun... maybe I'll be fortunate enough to have some Haynie-type girls on my floor :).

It's a Torential Downpour ... and Maybe a Shower

On Thursday night, I'm sitting in the exact seat I am now, at home checking on the forecast for Springfield for Saturday - the day of Heather M's shower so I can plan what I'm going to wear. Isolated T-storms, minimal risk for heavy rain.

Sooooo, I get ready at mom's house that morning since I have to get a haircut and make several other stops before heading to the shower in Petersburg. I haave two options with me, and decide on a brown favorite tee and a striped skirt, but it's primarily white.

The haircut went well, next on the agenda was Sam's to pick up the croissants and rolls for the shower. As I pull into the parking lot, it begins to sprinkle a bit - I'm parked NEXT TO HANDICAPPED. I realize that my umbrella is M.I.A. In the 10 minutes it takes me to go in, pick up my rolls and check out .... it's pouring & I can't even see my car from the doors. But I, of course, am running late and make a run for it. I get COMPLETELY drenched, and infd out it hasn't rained a bit at the shower.

On the way there, one of the viaducts is flooded but the Pathfinder cruised through. When I finally get to the shower, I'm still completely soaked but fortunately I brought two options to wear on Saturday :).
The shower was very nice, got to catch up with some people. A pregnant Jenn is back from the Middle East until August, when she and Brian and TBA head to another place to teach.

By the way ... Milstead loved her honeymoon survival kit we gave her, especially the "Drink, Drink, Party, Party" can coozies from The Longbranch in Athens.

GREAT BREAKING NEWS!!!!

Dream's 11-year-old mom, Fly, is FINALLY going to be able to retire after being "on the farm" having pups for 8 1/2 years.

Dream's former foster mom, who has Dream's grandma, picks Fly up this weekend. Hope to have a family reunion soon!

Dog Days of Summer

It was a pretty laid back week and weekend at our house, which was nice for a change. The highlight of our weekend was the annual Rescued Racers Greyhound Festival on Sunday McDonnell Park.

Couldn't have asked for better weather, about 82 with a breeze. About 200 hounds and their families came out to the park and enjoyed lots of activities. With that many dogs you'd expect it to be total chaos, but Greyhound's don't bark so it was pretty cool.
Dream's picture was one of the more prominent ones on a quilt of adopted hounds, so we felt like it was our duty to bid. The quilt went for $400, a little out of our league, but Roger landed us a framed picture/poster of a dog that looks like D in a racing red silk (#1 of course) that says something about looking for a place to call home. I won and got a steal on a case of honey rasperberry ale on the silent auction. You can see where our priorities are :).

We know everyone's seen Dream, at least in pictures. The dog in the picture, Jewel, is one of the three puppies adopted out by our group. Sooo cute!!
